Winter Wilderness Adventure in Alps

We will come and meet you at your accommodation to go through your short break, answer any questions and help you prepare for your winter trapper style adventure in the Alpine wilderness.

Today you will meet your guide for an introduction to snowshoeing and a snowshoe walk through the winter landscapes in search of the animals living in the snowy wilderness. There are chamois, deer, ibex, foxes, wild boar, wolves and even lynx in the area to look out for.

Re-live the trapper life by following tracks and interpreting the clues left by nature to understand and thrive in this inhospitable habitat.

Your guide will help you identify the tracks and signs and help you spot the little black dots on the cliffs that transform into alpine wildlife through the lens of a telescope!  

You will need to take a picnic lunch with you to eat in the mountains on this trip. You can order this from your accommodation the night before.

Today you will head up to the Rocherousse plateau at 2,200m to meet your huskies and musher instructor. They will explain the commands and instructions you will need to know to manage your dog team before setting off for a trip around the snowy high alpine plateau mushing your own team of huskies from your sled. 

After your husky sledding, the next stop is the wood fired hot tubs for a natural pamper to relax your achey muscles.

It is possible to eat in a high altitude restaurant, just next to the huskies at lunchtime. 

Hopefully you will be feeling fully revived and inspired after your wild weekend adventure in the Alps and ready to tackle anything that life may throw at you!

Your guide will meet you in the morning and take you off to build a trapper style survival shelter or igloo, similar to those that real trappers would have used in the remote snowy wildernesses.  There are several techniques for building igloos and snow shelters depending on the snow conditions and the terrain available. 

Your guide will give you plenty of tips to help you optimise the environment around you to build a safe and structurally sound snow shelter or igloo.  

Once it is built, you can then get creative carving shelves and decorations as you wish! It takes a good half a day to build a decent igloo but can be longer.

After break for lunch (maybe inside your igloo!) and once the igloos are finished you will go for a snowshoe walk around the site to explore and discover what wild animals have been watching you using the skills and techniques you learned yesterday!

For safety reasons we can't allow you to sleep in the igloos or shelters you have built for safety reasons but you will be able to experience a night in a real igloo tonight!

You will nee to order a picnic for your day out igloo building.

After your day building igloos and snow shelters, tonight you will experience a night outdoors in an igloo built by professionals. 

Your igloo guide will welcome you give you a tour of the igloos and a safety briefing. After preparing your belongings for the night, you will then eat dinner in the warm of the Auberge before heading back out in the cold to brace the night.

Snuggled up in your sleeping bags in your snow dome, is a one off and very special experience and the challenge is to last the night!

Waking up in the peace and quiet in the wilds of the Alps in an igloo is a unique and once in a lifetime adventure. If you can brave the early morning outside to watch the sun rise and listen to the sound of nature waking up it is a rare and privileged experience.

After a well appreciated breakfast in the warm of the Auberge, you can go and have a shower and freshen up for your last day in the mountains. 

The wood fired hot tubs are situated next to the Auberge where the igloos are and we generally schedule these for your last day after the huskies, but it is possible to arrange the hot tub experience for the night you are in the igloo or after your first day snowshoeing. We will confirm this with you when you book. 

There is a hot tub and a sauna and a cold plunge pool (if the snow isn't cold enough for you!!). This is a totally natural experience with no electricity used to heat the water and no chemicals used in the water. Your party will have exclusive use of the site for the 1hour session..
