Although it is amazing to be a spectator at the Tour it isn’t the best time to come cycling for yourself as the roads are busy with tourists. The best time to cycle in the region is May - July and September – October. This is when the cols are more traffic free, it's warm but not baking and the light on the mountains is beautiful.
