If you want to challenge yourself physically and mentally, and access some hidden corners of a pristine winter wonderland, ice climbing is for you!
The Southern Fench Alps has some of the best and varied ice in the Alps which attracts ice climbers from all over the world. However, you don't need to be an extreme climber to apprciate this winter paradise!
There are a range of gullies, canyons and frozen waterfalls of differing levels. So whether you've tried ice climbing before and want to brush up on your skills or you if want to try something completely new, there is something for everyone.
This is a progressive week course where you will learn the basics of ice safety and security and essential ice climbing techniques.
After an intensive introduction on your first day, you will then learn multi pitch techniques concentrating on placing ice screws and other gear (and removing them!) and looking the different belaying systems.
For the rest of the week you will put these skills into practice on different multi pitch routes the area has to offer...you can even have a go at leading them!
You have a free day in the the middle of the week to let your muscles recover! Either you can chill out in Champoléon or you can try some of the other activities that we have to offer. Why not have a go at cross country skiing, husky dog sledding or snowshoeing?
For all our ice climbing trips we use fully qualified UIAGM high mountain guides. We choose our guides for their professionalism, local knowledge and expertise. Your safety is their priority whilst making sure you have a good time.
There will be a maximum of 6 climbers per guide for top roping and 3 per guide for multi pitch routes.
